The Italian designer passed away at the age of 91, after a life dedicated to fashion, elegance, and style.
Giorgio Armani was a pioneer in giving leather a central place in fashion. Through his vision and creativity, he elevated the material in prêt-à-porter and haute couture alike, demonstrating its versatility and timelessness. His refined use of leather garments and accessories inspired generations of designers and strengthened the image of leather as a noble material in the global fashion scene.
In his pursuit of excellence, Mr Armani consistently relied on European artisans and tanneries. His collections showcased the mastery of Europe’s leather craftsmanship, from fine tailoring to luxury accessories, reinforcing the continent’s role as a benchmark for quality and innovation.
For nearly five decades, the Armani house remained independent, reflecting his values of discipline, authenticity, and craftsmanship. His work supported European artisans, tanners, and manufacturers by consistently highlighting quality leather as a cornerstone of luxury and design.
With Giorgio Armani, the leather sector loses one of its greatest promoters. His designs have left an indelible mark on both fashion and the leather industry, a legacy that will endure.
COTANCE expresses its deepest condolences to his family, his colleagues, and the entire Armani Group. Let us honour his memory, keep passing on his legacy, and continue to embrace more leather.
On behalf of the European Leather Industry,
With deepest sympathy,
