OVERVIEW

John wasn’t looking for a job in the leather industry but applied through an agency on the recommendation of a friend. He was working at a fish filleting factory at the time so, even though he knew nothing about the industry, he thought it could only be a step up!

His role as a leatherworker is diverse and interesting and covers everything from selection of hides for processing to running the drums that the leather is tanned in. He sees the whole process from start to finish, tending to the raw material to ensure that there is a good result at the end. He has also had a hand in the engineering work required to keep the tannery running.

John has had a variety of jobs and enjoys the relaxed, good atmosphere that exists in the tannery. He is proud to say that he works in a tannery that produces a quality products and believes that the industry offers good career opportunities for young people.
