OVERVIEW

HELLER LEATHER GmbH & Co. KG was founded in Hehlen at the Weser in 1920, as Braunschweigerische LEATHER WORKS HELLER & CAHEN and started production of leather for the upholstery and office furniture industry.

In 1969, production was converted to modern sophisticated chrome tanned upholstery leather. In 1983, a full biological sewage treatment plant was installed to cope with the expanding capacity of the tannery. They currently tan1,500 hides daily, using local fresh skins where possible.

In addition to its classic quality furniture leather, HELLER-LEDER produces thick leathers for premium brands in the automobile sector and also offers contract-tanning services.

HELLER LEDER has adopted the motto HELLER goes Nature", i.e. environmentally friendly and sustainable leather production. The company was the first German leather factory to be awarded the Leather Working Group Gold award and the "Blue Angel" consumer protection label for its upholstery leather.

Similarly, its energy-efficiency was successfully audited with certificate ECO2L and in 2011 the company won the "Tannery of the Year" competition. Finally, in 2013 it received the national sustainability award (Blue Angel Award).
