OVERVIEW

I am a tanning technician, having studied at the tanning school here in Igualada, and although theory is important, in real life I use around 30% of theoretical knowledge. The outstanding 70% is made up by practical experience… in other words, learning on the job. Theory has to be implemented. Experience is the only way of making theory work and it can be improved it to obtain better results.

With 20 years under my belt I also have great experience, I suppose I could be considered a tanning specialist, or a tanning professional. Being responsible for the beam house and tanning processes means that I manage a team of 15 to 16 operators and therefore must ensure that all the processes are carried out properly. The whole company depends on us doing a good job. There is absolutely no room for human error.

The responsibility factor, and thus pressure, is tightly linked to my job. And if you ask me what attributes are basic for my job I would say that knowledge, patience, team spirit, respect for your co-workers and the many implications that the term responsibility carries with it.

As a team we tend to help each other. We have established a human chain. Each one of us is responsible for their own actions, but being colleagues helps enormously because it makes work easier, benefiting the whole process and this is reflected in the article.

The pressure is always on. The stress generated by the large volume of hides is difficult to bear sometimes, and that is why sometimes I compare myself to a fireman. I always have the fire extinguisher handy, just in case!

The satisfaction of this job comes mainly from the tests and new developments. But I cannot deny that I also enjoy seeing the end results of our job translated into luxury items.

I enjoy my job and proud to work for the leather industry and proud to be working at Miret y Cia When it plays such an important role in your life, you dedicate so many hours to it, it is normal that that satisfaction is with you wherever you go. Not speaking about my job and how my day has been to my family would be really strange to me.

The satisfaction of this job comes mainly from the tests and new developments. But I cannot deny that I also enjoy seeing the end results of our job translated into luxury items.
