OVERVIEW

Christian visited a tannery as a child and the memory stayed with him. So it is unsurprising that he  was interested when he saw a job in a nearby tannery advertised in his local paper. In addition to being interested in the role, he was also attracted by the heritage of the tannery and its history in his home town. However, he knew nothing about process of leather manufacture and was amazed at the processes involved and the things that can be done with the colour, finish and properties of the leather. As Christian says, ‘The intrigue of leather is making a natural material work for you’.

In his role as Planning Coordinator, he is responsible for planning everything that happens in the production process, prioritising what needs to be made in order to ensure that orders are produced and dispatched on time. He had previously worked as a warehouse supervisor and finds current role to be much more involved, with more to take account of and more accountability resting with him.

This is a difficult and testing role but he enjoys the challenge and the fact that it is ‘never quiet’. Although he works across all the teams in the factory, his biggest challenge is to ensure that the sales team are satisfied as everyone wants their order to be dispatched first. With so much variation in his work, it is always interesting and he is happy in his job and with scope for developing his career in the industry.
