Traceability of Raw Materials
Traceability: COTANCE sets up a positive list of hides and skins suppliers
(2001) The valorisation of by-products constitutes one of the major environmental goals of the European leather industry. To achieve substantial results in this area, major efforts must be carried out in the traceability of raw materials (hides and skins). Indeed, untanned by-products of large categories of hides and skins represent a valuable raw material for many industries, including the animal and human food chain. In order to fulfill the legal requirements that allow untanned hide material to enter the food chain, COTANCE decided to set up a positive list of hides and skins suppliers who routinely supply sanitary documents, thereby making it possible to trace back the origin of the input material for food-grade gelatin.
